Students' Testimonies
What can we learn from the students in our Chinese program?
If your friend asks you, “should I take Chinese? I heard Chinese is hard.” What should you suggest/respond?
"I will do business in the future. There is a lot of business going on between the US and China. Taking Chinese will help me a lot doing business with Chinese companies in the future." (Cole)
“Chinese is such a different language than any of the other offered l classes, so it is very interesting. Also, the language is extremely useful. The classes adapt well to each learner, so it is not too difficult.” - Kazemi Adachi
“Chinese is less harder than other language classes because you are going slower. And I think Chinese is the best only because you are going on a cool field trip, like Chinatown. Or you get to go to a class, and just pretty much sit around and speak Chinese.” (Chris)
“The pace is slow. Just take it. It is an easy A” (Chaundra)
“It is difficult, but it is doable” (Thalia)
“Take it. It does not have conjugation” (Kyla)
“I will say still take it because it is not that difficult. It is not more difficult than any other language.” (Kenny)
"I have a free period. I did not know what to take. So I just decided to take Chinese." (Jamie)

Why did you choose to learn Chinese while you may not learn it in the middle school?
"“Chinese is going to help me do bussiness, that is my other favorite class. Plus, one out of 5 people in the world speaks Chinese. It is hard not to keep up and try to learn Chinese”. (Chris)
“I am a native speaker, but taking Mandarin over at Stevenson still broadens my knowledge about both the culture and language. The teachers here make sure the class is fun and interactive, and I have improved lots on both my speaking and writing.” – Hannah Yan
“Even though I am a Chinese. I still have to learn it and get more familiar with Chinese speaking and writing.” (Diane)

What makes you to continue learning Chinese?
“Chinese is fun. I like the challenge”. (Chris)
“At first Chinese seemed really hard & confusing, but then once I started I had a really good time learning. The games/stories/slideshows we watch & play are great ways to learn the basics quickly, and we review a lot, which helps as well. It’s a really fun class to take, and I’ve learned a lot of new concepts & study methods.” - Megan Pinkley
“While a lot of people will tell you, that you should take Mandarin because it’s a highly useful language in the growing world, but if you take the culture and not just the language. I also take French and learning language is a great way to explore the world without going anywhere.” – Lia Tziortzis
